Brothers

Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero. ~Marc Brown

Night Waking

Poor Emmett's been a fussy mess lately and has been waking up a lot at night. We're thinking maybe he has teeth on the way. So far he's still just got the two teeth.

A Brisk Winter Day

We enjoyed a sunny afternoon outside to avoid the winter doldrums of being cooped up inside. Emmett loved his first slide and Miles had fun showing him how it's done.

As soon as we came inside Emmett discovered the cats' water dish and had a small lake in our utility room. He's quick!

Decking the Halls

We are trimmed inside and out! It took some doing, but with my two helpers I got it done. Emmett has been surprisingly good with the tree, but I think we'll hold off on presents until the last minute.

Family Photos

Our family pictures in Bricktown turned out super cute! Miles lasted just long enough to get a few posed ones and then we had fun just watching him be silly.

A Wizard in the Making

Casey bought me the Weasley house as a thank you gift for having to do everything by myself this week while he was recuperating. I love it & Miles does too! He patiently sat and helped me build the whole thing and he's played with it all weekend. He's very careful with all the tiny pieces which I didn't expect and he doesn't even try to take it apart. I was planning to just build it and set it on my bookcase at work, but I think we're going to have to keep it around the house for a while.

Here Comes Santa Claus

This weekend we had our family pictures done in Bricktown and since we were downtown we stopped by Bass Pro to check out their Santa's Workshop display. Miles made a Rudolph ornament and the boys took a picture with Santa. We played with the demo toys and ended up buying a kid's tent for Miles' Christmas. All free, except of course the tent.

Winter Duds

I love this monkey hat!! Miles is already to the point where he wants to pick his own clothes and will flat out refuse to wear certain things so I have to take advantage of my opportunity with Emmett.

Toddler Neckties

About a week before our holiday picture session I started thinking about what the boys should wear. I only booked a session because I got a good deal and I didn't want to spend much on new clothes. Their outfits turned out super duper cute and it was all done on the cheap. Both dress shirts and sweaters came from a resale store so they were bargains and I made the ties. That's right, I made them. I saw some at a local boutique store for $23 a piece and decided that it was not worth $50 to have the boys wearing ties for a half hour. I found a necktie coloring sheet online and used that to get the shape right. Then I cut a strip for the collar and finished it off with elastic in the back. I am not known for my sewing skills so if I can do it literally anyone could. There was a little trial and error with the first tie, but once I had a plan the second tie took about 10 minutes. It was actually a lot of fun.

Red Rock Again

We enjoyed Red Rock so much last month that we headed back for another day trip this past Sunday. It's got to be one of my all time favorite places in Oklahoma and it's a great place for a boy to be a boy.

Emmett Update

Emmett is really interacting more every day and is a hilarious mimic. He claps, smacks his lips, pats his belly, and tries to recreate lots of silly noises. Last week he pulled up from a sitting to a standing position for the first time by climbing up Casey's shirt. Now that he's mobile it seems he's always after something. He's much more curious about getting into things than Miles was. Right now doors and door stoppers are a favorite. Once I caught him playing in the cat food and another time we caught him a second away from reaching into the trash so we have to really watch him. Miles has been a great help in keeping unsafe toys away. He seems to really like being allowed to take certain things away and sometimes he overuses that excuse. Emmett also loves the cats. Usually they are good about keeping a safe distance, but sometimes they get distracted and Emmett gets pretty close. Louise is often torn by her desire to gaze out the front door and her desire to stay out of Emmett's reach. He's starting to talk some too. He says mama pretty regularly and yesterday he said cat, "gat."

First Day of School

Today Miles started his first day of Mother's Day Out. He's attending the Bart Conner Academy in Norman one day a week. It's a very laid back atmosphere with no particular curriculum, just lots and lots of play which is exactly what I wanted. Highlights of the day included losing his sock in the foam pit (teacher found it) and having french fries for lunch. He must have worn himself out because Casey found him asleep on a gym mat when school was over. The teacher said he played hard all morning and faded during their after lunch quiet time.
