Added some bananas to Emmett's rice cereal for the 1st time. He was not a fan!

Father's Day
Miles gets confused about gift giving holidays. I had coached him on what to say and he did get out a "Happy Father's Day", but an "It's Your Birthday" squeezed it's way in too. This year I struggled for gift ideas so I just picked several small things. I got Casey new shoes which I gave him early because he needed new shoes for family pictures. I also got a couple of soccer tees which I also gave early because I thought Casey might want his World Cup t-shirt when he had friends over to watch the game. So I was left with a dashboard mount for his phone and a cheap bookcase. The bookcase I got for Casey's office had to be put together. Thoughtful, huh? Luckily he had a little helper.

Later that morning we headed out to the Red Earth Festival where we looked at the art vendors and caught the beginning of the dancing competition. We saw the Grand Entry with all the dancers in their traditional dress. I thought Miles would be more impressed by all the colors, and feathers, and bells, but he didn't seem to register anything out of the ordinary. The dancing was interesting and Casey and I both really enjoyed the drumming, but Miles had seen enough after about an hour so we headed home for naps and then had dinner out with my parents.

We Have A Roller!
Emmett has been so close to rolling for quite a while, but just never seemed to be able to get that opposite shoulder tucked under. Thursday he did it! He went from back to belly and then immediately to back again. He's not a big fan of tummy time so he's pretty happy about being able to roll out of it now.
5 Months Old
It's true. I can't believe how time flies. Here are a few quick facts that stick out in my mind at 5 months.
He loves outside just like his big brother.
He sleeps best when he's snuggled and warm.
He hates getting his clothes changed.
He's aware of his surroundings and doesn't like when you are out of his sight.
He has a smile for everybody. A huge ear to ear smile.
He's most fussy just before he conks out.
He can't sit by himself, but loves to sit in your lap or be held upright.
His pacifier works wonders.
He loves TV. He contorts himself and cranes his little neck to sneak a peek.
He's not rolling, but he can scoot and wiggle.
He grabs everything- toys, glasses, hair, his feet, whatever he can reach.
He likes to splash in the tub which annoys Miles.
He coos and babbles to himself when he first wakes up.
He just started rice cereal and loves it!

The Art Museum
For weeks Miles has been asking to go to the art museum. He's never been so I'm not entirely sure what he expects, but when he gets an idea it's hard to shake so we went. We parked the car and as we are still getting the kids out a drunken bum starts vomiting in a trash can, not but 50 feet away. Then, we hear sirens and Casey's muttering something about the joys of downtown.
We planned to grab a bite in the museum cafe which turned out to be slightly more upscale during Sunday brunch. We didn't feel comfortable hauling two little ones into the restaurant with the uppity blue hairs so we opted to dine on the patio where kids couldn't bother anyone. It was a wonderful meal until we saw our second bum who apparently was suffering from some serious mental illness which involved tourettes and hallucination. I would normally have compassion for the homeless and the crazy, but with two kids in tow I felt like a momma bear on the defense. Luckily Miles found the tourettes guy funny instead of frightening and he didn't repeat a single curse word. Mr. Tourettes managed to wander around the block and revisit our patio location from the other side of the street before our meal ended. He was a gem.
Once we were inside the visit got much better. Miles liked looking at the paintings especially the abstract art and he loved the Chihuly glass exhibit on the 3rd floor. Honestly the 3rd floor alone warrants a visit; it's just fabulous. Miles was very well behaved using his best inside voice. Even a small inside voice carries in those open exhibit halls and I caught lots of smiles as Miles pointed out some color or item that caught his eye in each painting. Once we saw just about all the art he started asking about the tractor and the bubbles. I'm pretty sure he was thinking about the science museum all along.

Family Pictures
Friday we sat for family pictures at a park here in Norman. I was super excited, but a little nervous about how things would go with two little ones. I know at home I have enough difficulty just getting them both looking in the same direction.
Here's how it all went down. At the last minute Casey's big boss decided to fly the corporate jet into OKC so his plan to leave work early failed. That left me getting myself and two kids picture ready and out the door in 45 minutes. Then for the drive to Norman. Miles is great in the car, but for some unknown reason he was in tears by the time we reached our destination because he was "stuck in his seat." He wanted to sit in the front with me and "drive" which we allow when the car is parked in the driveway, but of course not when we are actually driving.
We arrived and Miles had to put on his shoes, new sandals which he deemed scratchy. We weren't doing much walking so I hid the backup tennies and forced the sandals. He was good. We met the photographer who was super sweet and someone I figured Miles would warm up to. She started getting her cameras out and Miles started loudly announcing, "I don't wanna get my picture made." He's at that age where he's like a broken record until he gets his way so we heard that phrase about a hundred times in the next hour.
I specifically requested outdoor pictures so the location the photographer selected was ideal until Miles decided that sitting in the grass was itchy. No problem, we had a blanket. Miles then noticed that there were "buggies" and he refused to touch a tree because he saw an ant on one tree. He was really getting whiny when Casey came to the rescue with a sucker stashed in his car from the bank teller. Miles is eating an orange sucker in half the pictures, but he was happy. It was also one of the warmest days of the year thus far so our picture perfect freshness was quickly fading. Emmett was his usual easy going self until he started getting hot. We had to get out the pacie to calm him so we've got the pacie in half our pictures as well. True to life.
I was in new clothes purchased especially for the picture and not yet worn. I'm still getting the hang of dressing my post baby boobs so the tank I bought in my usual size was showing more cleavage than I planned. I felt like I was hiking up my neckline all night. I had planned a layered look for Miles, but it was just too dang hot.
Towards the end of the session Miles changed from an incessant "I don't wanna get my picture made" to a never ending chorus of "I'm done." We were in total bribery mode talking about our next stop to eat Mexican food with promises of chips and cheese. I felt bad that Miles was such an obstinate little whiner, but the photographer was wonderfully patient and I just know she got some good ones. We'll see proofs in a couple weeks.

I am Addicted to Etsy
In the past month I bought the following:
-personalized embroidered Disney tees for the boys to wear on vacation
-a red and white polka dot camera strap. So much more comfortable and stylish that the one my camera came with.
- Red & white polka dot pillow covers
-Mickey Mouse glass marble magnets
-Vinyl wall decal for my office
-Embroidered neck tie onesie for Emmett
And.....
A baby clothes quilt. I am so stinkin excited about this one! Now that Emmett is getting bigger I have all kinds of baby clothes that I don't need. However, I can't bring myself to get rid of them. I saw the idea in a magazine, but some of the companies that do it professionally charge upwards of $400 for a small quilt. Yikes! I thought about trying to do it myself, but I surely don't have the time and I don't know anything about quilt making. I found a lady on Etsy doing toddler quilts for $125. She can incorporate 48 squares so 48 possible different clothing items. I will supply the fabric for the back and the edges so I will get to pick what I want. With shipping and fabric cost I'm looking at $175 at the very most probably less. Here's the example she had online. I can't wait for mine!!
